All of the glass we use in our jewelry is natural beach glass. It is handpicked from the shores of Long Island. I do not tumble, sandblast or otherwise enhance the texture or color of our beach glass. It is set into our jewelry as it was found - naturally - making each piece a unique and one-of-a-kind. All of our silver is solid .925 sterling. Any and all parts (findings) of our jewelry including bezels, bails, hoops, jump rings, hooks, clasps and chains are also of the highest quality solid sterling.
I am often questioned about the origins of beach glass, how it is formed and the weathering processes. What I know, is that it takes a very long time for beach glass to naturally and completely form. Some of the glass that we find is known to have been kicking around on the ocean’s floor for over a hundred years. But the truth is, no one is certain on exactly how long it takes to form the perfect piece of beach glass. Beach conditions, chemical make-up of the water and geographic locations have a large impact on the weathering process. Lakes and rivers, bays and oceans have unique and varying conditions, and these conditions have a profound affect on the beach glass.
Fortunately years of diligent hunting, some good luck and a bit of spiritual guidance have granted us a vast collection of naturally beautiful beach glass. Our collection now stands at over 23,000 pieces and I can confidently say it’s among the largest and the most beautiful on Long Island. For more information on this subject there is an excellent book available - Pure Sea Glass, by Richard LaMotte published 2004 by Chesapeake Bay. You can follow this link to check it out; www.pureseaglass.com I highly recommend this comprehensive book. It details the art and science of beach glass, collecting it, and provides beautiful photographs of outstanding collections. A common theme of the author and collectors is that natural beach glass is quickly disappearing. Recycling and new plastics have, for better or worse, severely impacted the chances of finding quality beach glass. Following are descriptions of beach glass my wife Jeannie and I have collected as native Long Islanders. My wife has been collecting for over thirty years, and myself, over a decade. The quality of my workmanship and of our glass is unsurpassed. I am confident if you choose my work you are getting the highest quality most naturally formed beach glass available. My workmanship and the authenticity of my beach glass are guaranteed |
